# Market Fit Research

Gen6's strongest position is proof.

## Proof First: Where Gen6 Fits in 2026

Gen6's strongest position is proof. None of the 13 rivals we compared combines four things: **content signing, verification without an ID document or biometric scan, end-to-end encrypted private messages, and sign-up without a phone number. Gen6 does.** This page sets out the evidence: the market gap, who pays, the regulation shaping the market, the infrastructure question and the real needs Gen6 answers.

Note for this document: Gen6 FactChecker integration was not yet considered here, neither the Gen6 builder (visuals/interfaces for users).

### The principle: real feelings, real solutions

Gen6 follows one rule for what it builds and how it talks about it: connect an existing, real feeling to a real solution. In Hungarian: *Meglévő, valódi érzést kell összekötni valódi megoldással.*

* **The feeling must already exist.** Gen6 starts from a stress people already have and already act on. It does not manufacture worry.
* **The solution must already work.** Gen6 claims only what it can deliver today, and says plainly what it does not do.

### The open ground

Encrypted messaging is crowded, and encrypted social sharing already exists at scale: WhatsApp statuses are end-to-end encrypted, in an Updates tab used by 1.5 billion people a day ([WhatsApp](https://blog.whatsapp.com/helping-you-find-more-channels-and-businesses-on-whatsapp)). Public posts cannot be end-to-end encrypted by design, so the open question for a public feed is who posted it and whether it changed. That is proof, and proof is the gap.

Selected rivals from a comparison of 13, checked on 10 October 2026:

* **Two rivals verify people, and both need a document or a biometric.** W Social uses an ID plus face matching. World uses an iris scan, which regulators in Germany, Spain and Colombia have acted against ([EDPB](https://edpb.europa.eu/system/files/2025-02/decision1594_0.pdf), [Catalan News](https://catalannews.com/business/item/iris-scanning-crypto-project-worldcoin-ordered-to-delete-all-collected-data), [Finance Colombia](https://www.financecolombia.com/?p=37921)).
* **Nostr signs every note and verifies nobody.**
* **Gen6 is the only product here with all four.**

### How Gen6 describes itself

The public line: **Verified people. Signed posts. Private messages.** Verified and signed come first because that is where no rival competes; encrypted comes third because encryption alone no longer sets anyone apart.

### Who pays in this market

Consumers rarely pay for privacy; organizations pay for trust.

* **Telegram:** about 1.5% of its claimed users pay for Premium. That is 15M subscribers attributed to its founder, through an aggregator, against a claim of over 1 billion users ([Backlinko](https://backlinko.com/telegram-users), [Telegram FAQ](https://telegram.org/faq)).
* **Threema:** roughly EUR 1.25 per user a year. This is arithmetic on a press estimate of about EUR 15M revenue and a company figure of 12M+ users ([NKP M\&A Insights](https://www.mainsights.io/ma-news/comitis-capital-acquires-swiss-secure-communications-provider-threema-from-afinum-and-founders), [HSF Kramer](https://www.hsfkramer.com/th/news/2026-01/hsf-kramer-advises-comitis-capital-on-the-acquisition-of-threema)).
* **Session:** more than 1.7M monthly users, yet all paid staff left in April 2026 for want of about USD 1M a year ([CyberInsider](https://cyberinsider.com/session-says-funding-will-last-until-july-pauses-development/)). It now runs on community contributions ([Session](https://getsession.org/the-future-of-session)).
* **The sovereign messengers sell to institutions.** The Bundestag president recommended Wire to members of parliament ([CyberInsider](https://cyberinsider.com/?p=317854)). Element says governments in more than 25 countries use Matrix ([Element](https://element.io/about)). Threema's seller reported more than 15 government users ([Afinum](https://afinum.de/afinum-sells-its-shareholding-in-threema/)).

An illustration, not a Gen6 price: at EUR 60 a year, EUR 1M of revenue needs 16,667 paying users. At 5% conversion, that is about 333,000 active users.

Gen6's revenue lines follow from this:

* **Organizations:** a verified Gold Organization badge plus RealSeal signing, so readers can check what an organization published without opening an account.
* **Public sector:** deployments the customer controls, through Gen6 Private Chains.
* **Individuals:** subscription tiers (Normal, Premium and Premium+, [Partner Journey](https://wiki.gen6.life/research/partner-journey-what-we-learned-and-where-the-revenue-is)), with digital wellbeing programs planned with partners.

### Regulation that shapes the market

Five EU rules decide what proof and privacy products must do, and what they may claim.

### Sovereign infrastructure

Several privacy brands run on US hyperscalers, while public buyers increasingly want deployments they control.

* **Where rivals run.** Signal runs partly on AWS ([Computerworld](https://www.computerworld.com/article/4081031/signal-we-have-no-choice-but-to-use-aws.html)). Olvid's message server is "hosted at AWS" ([Olvid on GitHub](https://github.com/olvid-io/olvid-aws-server)). Wire lists AWS as its hosting sub-processor ([Wire](https://wire.com/en/privacy-policy)) and also offers a version hosted on STACKIT ([STACKIT](https://stackit.com/en/solutions/digital-workplaces/wire)). Threema runs its own servers in the Zurich area ([Threema](https://threema.com/en/faq/server-location)).
* **What institutions choose.** "Wire Bund" runs on German federal infrastructure with BSI approval for classified information ([CyberInsider](https://cyberinsider.com/?p=317854)). The European Commission has tested self-hosted Element Pro since summer 2026 ([t3n](https://t3n.de/news/eu-beamte-hassen-alternative-zu-microsoft-teams-1766803/)).
* **What Gen6 offers today.** Validators can be self-hosted, and the five recommended VPS providers are Hungarian, Swedish, German, German and French ([Validator Hosting and SLA Guide](https://wiki.gen6.life/education/support-guides/validator-hosting-and-sla-guide)). The middleware can be self-hosted ([GGS-4](https://wiki.gen6.life/technology-core/standards/ggs-4-encrypted-communication)), the chain code is public ([Gen6 Public Chain: Dev Info](https://wiki.gen6.life/technology-core/developer-resources/gen6-public-chain-dev-info)), and organizations can run Gen6 Private Chains ([Gen6 Wiki home](https://wiki.gen6.life)).
* **The questions any sovereignty claim must answer.** Where message storage runs and who operates it; what Google and Apple see in the push path, which [Session's FAQ](https://getsession.org/faq) answers in detail; where the validators run; and which third parties touch user data. Gen6 will publish its answers on a "Where Gen6 runs" page.

### Real needs Gen6 answers

Each row starts from a stress people already act on, then the evidence, then what Gen6 offers today.
